This small hand carved wooden duck figure dates from the middle of the 19th century or earlier. I believe the duck is Native American, possibly having origins in the midwest. The carving is quite stylistic with a form that reminds one of a bird stone, atlatl weight or net weight. The wood is fir with a pronounced grain and natural unfinished surface that exhibts a wonderful undisturbed patina.
