This outstanding carved wooden figure of a Raven dates from the mid to late 19th century. I believe the figure has it's origins in one of the Native American Tribes that inhabit the Nortwest Coast of North America. The form is superb, giving the bird a presence that is powerful and in it's own way, majestic. The surface is untouched retaining a fairly large amount of the original black coloring, appropriate wear and an excellent patina. The wood is light in weight and color similar to balsa.
