The wonderful carved black man's head is made of pine and it dates from the late 19th century. The quality of the carving is excellent with a great original untouched surface. I purchased this figure about 15 years ago from a gentleman in Mississippi who related that it had been carved by his grandfather about 1880 while living in Mississippi. The bottom of the figure has the remnants of a green felt that has worn away.
